Kecmanovic Overcomes Millman

Miomir Kecmanovic maintained his perfect first record at Wimbledon as he advanced to the second round with a four-set win over John Millman on Monday.

The World No. 30 broke the Aussie twice to claim the first set, but Millman fought back in the second, by saving all four break points that he faced in the set and converting two of three.

In the third, Kecmanovic got the only break of the set in the second game to go 2-1 up.

Both players traded an early break in the fourth set, but the Serb got his nose in front by breaking again in the seventh game and then clinched the contest 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in two hours and 26 minutes.

Kecmanovic had made it to the second round on both of his previous Wimbledon appearances. Now he has a chance of making the Round of 32 in the grass court major for the first time.

This was the 22-year-old’s first win on grass this season after he lost the opening round matches in Halle and Mallorca. He has otherwise displayed decent form this year and Monday’s win improved him to 26-14. He will be looking to add more victories in the tournament to improve that record further.

Tabilo Quashes Djere’s Comeback Bid

World No. 78 Alejandro Tabilo saved a match point to deny Laslo Djere a valiant come-from-behind victory in the opening round on Monday.

The 25-year-old Chilean, playing his first match at Wimbledon, had squandered a two-sets-to-love lead as Djere came back to force the deciding set. In the final set, Tabilo went 3-0 up but the Serbian fought back again to take the match into the tiebreak. After three mini-breaks each, Tabilo couldn’t convert a match point. Then Djere had an opportunity to close the match at 9-10, but the Chilean saved it to stay alive.

Eventually, it was Tabilo who converted a third match point to win the three-hour-and-21-minute marathon 7-6 (8-6), 6-2, 1-6, 4-6, 7-6 (13-11).

This was Tabilo’s first main draw victory at any level on grass court. The 25-year-old is 13-11 this year and has done particularly well on clay, reaching a maiden ATP final in Cordoba.

Can the tough first round win inspire him to win more matches in the tournament?

Kecmanovic v Tabilo Prediction and Tip

Tabilo is extremely competitive, but on grass, Kecmanovic will hold the edge. Expect the Serbian to advance for a potential third round meeting with Novak Djokovic, who will play Thanasi Kokkinakis in Round 2.
