Jenson Brooksby did not play that well leading up to Wimbledon losing a couple of matches he technically could have won. He certainly should have won it because he faced players below his ranking.
Today he did the same but he was much more sturdy. It was Mikhail Kukushkin, a player who certainly knows how to beat you if he gets the chance. Brooksby did not give him any chances playing the match with a deep focus. He did not risk too much and it paid off.
He served well enough and covered the court well enough to force Kukushkin to try and outhit him. It didn’t work and the number of errors certainly helped Brooksby in this one. He was also very clinical when he got a chance converting 6 of 7 break points.
On his own break points he was 3/4 in saving them so that worked as well.

Bonzi Dominates His Way Into R2
Benjamin Bonzi has played some really great tennis ahead of Wimbledon with his grass level surprising many. The French player is miles ahead of where he was last year and he’s playing with unwavering confidence that suits him well.
He has a powerful serve, and powerful groundstrokes and plays with little fear of making a mistake. That makes him a very tough opponent to beat, especially on grass. He was 6-1 leading up to Wimbledon and 27-14 overall which just signals how good of a year he has had.
Bonzi will certainly fancy his chances in this one because Brooksby is certainly beatable. He will need his serve to work as well as it did against Kolar. In that one, he only lost 15 points on his serve the entire match. What’s especially impressive is that he lost only 5 on his 2nd serve.
He also added 10 aces and such serving prowess could create a lot of problems for Brooksby.
Brooksby v Bonzi Prediction and Tip
I expect this match to be a very competitive one where both players will win at least one set. I generally think Bonzi showed more leading up to Wimbledon and I certainly think he can win this match. He’s not the better player overall but in this spot I quite like him.
It comes down to how his serve will work. If it works well I think he’ll win, if not he’s in trouble. Brooksby has enough variety to make it interesting but I’ll back Bonzi to win in four sets.
