Petra Kvitova had to work a bit on Tuesday to earn her first-round win at Wimbledon 2022. Playing Jasmine Paolini, she took the match 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and 43 minutes.
It wasn’t the most clinical performance from the Czech that we have seen in a while – she committed twice as many unforced errors while hitting just 18 winners to Paolini’s 11. Her service game was not that great either.
But critique aside, SW19 is a historic avenue where fortunes have turned quickly. Kvitova has two titles here and just last week, she won the title in Eastbourne after beating Beatriz Haddad Maia and Jelena Ostapenko in the final rounds. With that, Petra took her tally for the season to 15-13.
She has some momentum to her game and every win builds her confidence – something she will need soon in abundance as her next set of opponents will be more demanding.

Bogdan Upsets Yastremska
Ana Bogdan enjoyed a comparatively better start in London with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Dayana Yastremska in the opener.
The match lasted just an hour and the Romanian, ranked 111th on the tour, won with an 86% first-service win rate and just nine unforced errors. It was a lethal performance from Ana, who has now improved her tally for the year to 17-8. This also marks her first time in round two here since 2017.
Her preparations for the Wimbledon entailed a sole grass Challenger in Gaiba where she made it as far as the quarterfinal. Earlier in the season, she was a semifinalist in the Paris Challenger and won an ITF event in France early on.
Kvitova v Bogdan Prediction and Tip
Bogdan is experienced and Kvitova may still be a bit rusty. The likelihood of an upset is not too far behind, making Ana a good underdog bet. Given the way she started, that kind of efficiency should enable her to put up a solid resistance. Expect a good match of tennis.
