Pegula Flies Past Vekic

Donna Vekic has had previous success at Grand Slam level but had fallen off the rails more recently because of injury issues.

Pegula would have been slightly wary of taking on a tricky customer like Vekic first up in this competition but in the end, the American came away with a straight-set win over her opponent.

The world number nine defeated Vekic 6-3, 7-6 (2) in an hour and 30 minutes to seal her second round place. She was broken thrice in the encounter, and it was extra break of serve in the opening set, which came in the sixth game that proved to be the difference between these two players.

The second set went into a tie-breaker which Pegula had no problems winning and sealing a place in the round of 64.

Can Pegula add on to her win on grass, having played just one match on this surface this year now.

Dart Runs Past Rebeka

Rebeka Masarova hadn’t much of form going her way even in the lead-up to this year’s Wimbledon and Dart took full toll of that, living up to her odds on favourite billing.

The Brit took down Masarova 6-1, 6-4 in a matter of an hour and 18 minutes to reach the second round at Wimbledon for the second time in her career.

Dart won 61% of her first serve points but it was her second serving that left Masarova in knots – the Briton won 57% of those points to just 33% for her opponent.

And while Dart was broken twice in the match, she retaliated with six breaks of serves of her own to clinch a second round berth.

Keys can be expected to be a lot tighter than the 24 unforced errors that Masarova dished out, it is up to Dart to reduce her own count down from the 17 she committed in her opener.

Pegula v Dart Prediction and Tip

Pegula is a heavy favourite here and can be expected to cruise through in straight sets despite Dart’s strong showing in her opener.

Tip: Pegula to win in straight sets: 7/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
