This will however be the first time when they will meet on grass.

Tough Tiafoe Dumps Bublik

World No. 28 Frances Tiafoe withstood 25 aces and 71 winners from Alexander Bublik in the third round on Friday, before toppling the Kazakh in a two-hour-and-57-minute contest.

The American hit 45 winners, including 9 aces in the match, but it was his ability to rise during the key moments that ended Bublik’s run in the tournament. Thanks to the 3-6, 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 victory on Friday, Tiafoe moved into the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time.

The 23rd seed had reached the third round twice in his past four appearances but had never gone past that round.

This year, Tiafoe started with back-to-back three-set wins. He first knocked out Italy’s Andrea Vavassori 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 and then defeated Germany’s Maximilian Marterer 6-2, 6-2 7-6 (7-3) in the second round. While Tiafoe was broken just once in the first two rounds, both him and Bublik converted three of nine break points in the third round.

Friday’s win was the 24-year-old’s 15th win of the season. He was a finalist in Estoril but hasn’t had much success in other tournaments. He had come to Wimbledon having lost both his grass court matches this year, but three wins in a row would have boosted his confidence. One more win could take him into a second major quarterfinal. He had reached that far at the Australian Open in 2019.

Goffin Halts Humbert

David Goffin dropped the first set, but came roaring back in the next three to beat Ugo Humbert and advance to the fourth round for the fourth time at Wimbledon.

A quarterfinalist in 2019, the Belgian had bowed out of the Round of 16 in 2015 and 2016. This year, Goffin started with a 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Radu Albot and he added another straight sets win in the second round, defeating Argentina’s Sebastian Baez 6-1, 6-2, 6-4.

In the third round against the Frenchman, Goffin dropped his fifth service game to concede the first set. But the World No. 58 got the solitary break of the second and both the breaks of the third to go up 2-1.

Goffin broke Humbert in the first game of the fourth, but the World No. 112 wasn’t going down easily. He broke the Belgian twice to take a 2-5 lead, but he couldn’t close out the set as Goffin won the next five games in a row to win the match 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, 7-5 in two hours and 45 minutes.

The victory helped Goffin improve to 21-15 this season, which saw him lift a sixth ATP title, by winning in Marrakech.

Tiafoe v Goffin Prediction and Tip

Goffin has a superior record on grass and also a superior head-to-head record against Tiafoe. It should be a good contest between the two players who have done pretty well over the first three rounds. Goffin’s experience should however help him reach a second Wimbledon quarterfinal.
