Clinical Djokovic Form Continues

After what has been a difficult last year for the 20-time major winner Novak Djokovic, it all seems to be coming together this fortnight here at Wimbledon for him.

The six-time champion did not get off to the best of starts last week as he looked shaky in his four set opening round victory against South Korea’s Kwon Soon-woo.

However, Djokovic strung together extremely impressive performances over the next two rounds against Thanasi Kokkinakis and Mimor Kecmanovic, coming into his fourth round encounter against the Stuttgart ATP 250 winner Tim van Rijthoven.

In the round of 16, the number one seed started well taking the first set 6-2, but the Dutchman played a strong set to clinch it 6-4 leveling the match and raising prospects for an exciting contest.

However, it was clinical Djokovic from the start of the third set and the Serb prevailed 6-1, 6-2 in sets three and four to clinch another quarter-final spot at Wimbledon.

Sinner Prevails In Alcaraz Classic

Jannik Sinner had never been past the opening round of Wimbledon coming into the Championships this year.

It has been a mixed season for the 20-year old Italian with injury issues bothering him from time to time and most recently seeing him withdraw at the French Open and not have the best grass court preparation leading up to Wimbledon.

Sinner did not have the easiest of starts to the fortnight being pushed to four sets in his first two rounds by Stan Wawrinka and Mikael Ymer respectively.

However, the Italian put up a clinical display in the third round against big serving John Isner who was coming off a big win himself against Andy Murray and Sinner did very well to clinch that in straight sets.

In a clash of the last two Next Gen ATP Finals winners, Sinner was up against 19-year old sensation Carlos Alcaraz in the round of 16 and may have been a slight underdog.

Sinner was off to an explosive start clinching the first two sets 6-1, 6-4 and playing a game that was looking very big for the Spaniard.

It was a more even third set with the Alcaraz game coming to force and the set headed for a tiebreak.

Sinner saved three set points in the tiebreak and Alcaraz saved two match points in what was a nerve wracking breaker before the Spaniard took the match into the fourth set with a 10-8 win.

At the start of the fourth, it looked like momentum was swinging to Alcaraz as he had breakpoint chances but was unable to convert any and when Sinner broke for a 3-1 lead, it was all but over for the Spaniard.

Alcaraz did have more breakpoints but Sinner held strong when needed and served out a memorable four set win and a spot in his first Wimbledon quarter-final.

Djokovic v Sinner Prediction and Tip

Sinner put up an impressive showing against Alcaraz and there remains a lot of anticipation around his quarter-final against Djokovic.

However, it remains to be seen how much is left in his tank after the physicality of the Alcaraz match.

Expect a good contest from Sinner but the Serb is in imperious touch on the grass right now.

Djokovic to win in four sets.
