Kyrgios Maintains Focus in Nakashima Tussle

Aussie Nick Kyrgios has been at his focused best this fortnight and the results are showing.

After a good showing on the grass at Halle, and a precautionary withdrawal at Mallorca, he has looked solid here at the Championships.

It was a dramatic third round battle against Stefanos Tsitsipas that saw him make the round of 16 where he was up against American Brandon Nakashima.

Kyrgios lost the first set and seemed to have a niggle in the shoulder which needed medical assistance, but there was no stopping his momentum as he won the second set with a single break of serve and notched up the third in a tiebreak.

The Aussie’s level dropped in the fourth set where he was broken twice as Nakashima took the match into a decider.

It was all Kyrgios in the fifth taking the match into his control with two breaks of serve and a 6-2 win booking a spot in the Wimbledon final eight for the first time since his debut in 2014 where he was a quarter-finalist.

Garin Beats De Minaur in Epic

Cristian Garin was back in the round of 16 at Wimbledon for the second consecutive year.

Last year in his fourth attempt, he had won his first three matches in the tournament. This year, he had come into the tournament having lost both his matches on grass, but has looked a different player in the major.

Garin defeated Sweden’s Elias Ymer 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 and Hugo Grenier 6-3, 6-1, 6-1 in the first two rounds respectively, before taking out 29th seed Jenson Brooksby in the third round.

Up against Aussie Alex de Minaur in the round of 16, who himself has been in good nick, it was not the best of starts for the Chilean.

A couple early breaks for the Aussie set the tempo, as he took the first set 6-2. It was a closer second set but de Minaur broke as the set was heading into the tiebreak for a 7-5 second set.

The third set headed into a tiebreak where Garin upped his level for a 7-3 win stretching the match. An early break in the fourth saw Garin extend the match into a decider where there was not much to choose between both players.

Garin faced two match points on his serve down 4-5, but clutch serving saw the match head into a match tiebreak.

The Chilean took the lead early in the tiebreak and there was no looking back as he closed the set 10-6 in the breaker and booked a first quarter final spot at the majors for himself.

Kyrgios v Garin Prediction and Tip

Kyrgios versus Garin is a quarter-final that no one would have predicted when the draw was out the week before Wimbledon. However, both individuals have done very well to get here and most well deserved too.

Expect a good contest between two contrasting styles and a lot will depend on which version of Kyrgios shows up.

The Aussie to make his first major semi-final in a four setter.

Tip: Kyrgios to win in four sets: 11/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
