Jack Sock has been in very good touch on grass courts this year. He was a semifinalist in Nottingham, finished runner-up in Ilkley and carried that form to Wimbledon, reaching the third round after coming through the qualifiers.
Sock ousted Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the opening round and Maxime Cressy in the Round of 64, before going down to Jason Kubler in five sets.
The 29-year-old has a 16-13 record on grass courts at the tour level. He will be playing in Newport for the sixth time and has a brilliant 10-5 record from his previous appearances.
Sock was a semifinalist in 2014 and 2015 and a quarterfinalist last year, falling to eventual champion Kevin Anderson in the last eight. But coming into the tournament in top form this year, he will be hoping for another deep run.

Albot Unable to Translate Qualifier Form in Main Draws
Facing Sock will be Radu Albot. The Moldovan is 5-6 on the tour this season and 2-2 on grass.
After going down in the first round in Surbiton, he won all his qualifying rounds in Stuttgart, Halle and Wimbledon, but despite a 7-0 record in the qualifying rounds, he is 0-3 in the opening rounds and 0-4, including Challenger events.
Albot’s best this year was a run to the third round at the Australian Open as a qualifier.
Apart from that he has made it to two quarterfinals at the Challenger level, but hasn’t had more success in other tournaments. Can he deliver in Newport?
