Laura Siegemund has received entry into the main draw through special ranking. She will also be taking part in this tournament for the first time. The German veteran is in extremely good form, though she has been playing at the ITF level in order to boost her game confidence.
Siegemund won the Annenheim 2 ITF and Portschach ITF tournaments in a row in June last month. She is 21-9 on all surfaces this season and is 18-5 on clay.

Aleksandra Krunic has reached the second round of Budapest 3 times in her career. She arrives here after a mixed grass season where she was 4-4.
The Serbian is 16-16 all season and hasn’t had a great season. She is slipping down the rankings quickly however she performed very well in the French Open last month.
Krunic had entered in the qualifying draw of the French Open, played against some tricky opponents but won all her qualifiers. She reached the second round of the Grand Slam where she lost to Veronika Kudermetova.
The former world number 39 player is extremely good on clay. Despite her having an average season, she can turn up to her highest level on this surface any day.

This is a difficult match for both players and there is no clear favourite. Although the veteran Siegemund has been given the favourite odds, Krunic has an equal chance for a victory and has lot of value as an underdog.
