Kerber Continues Her Flawless Run

The second has been truly excellent so far in this tournament. She has been highly clinical in all of her previous matches and looks ripe to go the distance. She is yet to be troubled by any of the competitors in Melbourne.

With a strong left forehand and big serve, Kerber has defeated the likes of Polona Hercog and Beatriz Haddad Maia in straight sets, losing just nine games in total. However, in her third round fixture against the Australian Kimberly Birrell, she was simply on fire.

In just an hour, she dispatched Birrell with 6-1, 6-0, in a display of sheer finesse. With 17 winners and just nine unforced errors, Kerber has staked her claim to reach the No. 1 position again.

The German won the title back in 2017 and last season, she reached the semifinal where she lost to Simona Halep. Later that season, Kerber won the Wimbledon and cemented her position in the top 3.

Collins Coming in Strong

The American, who is currently at the No. 35 position in the world, has already delivered one of the best performances of her career so far. Not only this, but her fourth round feat in Melbourne is also her best result in a Grand Slam.

In the first round, Collins defeated the 14th seed Julia Goerges in three sets. She then met Sachia Vickery in the second round and it didn’t take long for her to win that match. In the 19th seed, she met Caroline Garcia and stunned the Frenchwoman with a 6-3, 6-2 win.

Last season was a landmark year for Collins. She broke into the top 50 after building her form in the ITF and 125K Series tournaments. However, she also had a brilliant run in the Miami Masters and WTA San Jose, where she reached the penultimate round.

Kerber v Collins – Head to Head

Kerber and Collins have met each other only once so far. That match took place in the third round of WTA Eastbourne, where Kerber won the match 6-1, 6-1.

Kerber v Collins – Who Will Win?

The German will start this match with the odds stacked in her favour. Kerber has been absolutely ruthless so far and it is hard to imagine Collins delivering an upset here. However, this one may be dragged to three sets but expect Kerber to emerge as the victor.
