Rublev Starts Well in Hamburg

Andrey Rublev lost to Sebastian Baez in Bastad last week in the quarterfinals but the Russian was glad to be back on the curt. It was a week that served to shake off the rust and he did quite well. Hamburg round one featured a better Rublev overall who took down a very spirited effort from Berankis.

Rublev plays a very aggressive style of tennis attacking early in rallies and hitting the ball very hard. He employed that style against Berankis and for the most part it worked. It’s still far away from his best but he needs a few weeks of consistent tennis to get there.

There are no confidence issues with the Russian and his year has been another spectacular one. 32-10 is the score overall and 14-5 on clay.

Hamburg is a place where he played well in the past winning the event in 2020. In that final, he came back from a break down in the final set to down Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Six In A Row For Cerundolo

Francisco Cerundolo is on an active 6-match winning streak as the Argentine won his maiden trophy in Bastad last week. He downed a couple of impressive player en route to the trophy and he was able to win his round one in Hamburg as well.

It was a tricky affair for Cerundolo who played against native Altmaier and the German jumped on him quite early. Cerundolo took some time to adjust and finally started playing much better cruising to a win. He did not show too much fatigue which is a good sign for him.

Players usually struggled the following week after winning a trophy but for Cerundolo it did not seem like a problem after winning most matches in straight sets.

Being fairly young helps as well and a day off today will mean he will have a clean slate ahead of his match with Rublev. He will fancy his chances and it should be a great match.

Rublev v Cerundolo Prediction and Tip

Andrey Rublev will be the slight favourite in this one but he really should not be. Cerundolo played much better last week in Bastad and he’s currently on fire coming off of a day off.

The Russian will have his hands full in this one but I will back him because I think he’ll be much better this week than last week. Hamburg is a place where he loves to play so I’ll back him to bounce back here.

Tip: Rublev to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
