Jiri Vesely v Federico Delbonis Head to Head

The head-to-head is currently tied at 2-2, but Vesely owns a 2-1 lead over Delbonis on clay courts.

Vesely Returns From Injury

Jiri Vesely was forced to give a walkover in his second-round match at the Newport Open two weeks ago due to a thigh injury. It is the third time this season the Czech left-hander has either been forced to retire from a match or pull out entirely.

Injuries have tormented Vesely throughout his career and the 29-year-old has probably run out of time to tap on his teenage potential. Nonetheless, Vesely has conjured up some decent milestones in his nearly 15-year career on the pro tour.

With two ATP titles to his name and multiple wins over a world number one, the big-serving Czech is unstoppable when he is on song. But even in the midst of another rough season with injuries, Vesely has still managed to enjoy the thrills of an adrenaline rush.

In Dubai, he reached the finals as a qualifier, defeating the likes of Marin Cilic,Bautista Agut, Denis Shapovalov, and memorably Novak Djokovic. His form dipped during the clay court season, suffering five straight defeats at one point before he managed to get his campaign back on track on the lawns of Wimbledon.

Delbonis Drops Out of Top 100

Federico Delbonis was a mainstay in the world’s top 100. But his subpar 2022 season has turned his ranking into three digits for the first time since September 2018.

The Argentine slipped to 125th in the latest rankings after his semifinal points from the Hamburg Open last season dropped off this week.

Delbonis has picked up 10 wins from 30 matches this season which pales in comparison to last season where he won 24 matches – all of which came on clay. Last week he was beaten by Dominic Thiem in the second round of the ATP tournament in Gstaad.

With a host of top names taking a break this week, his low ranking is sufficient to get him an automatic entry at the Croatian Open for the first time. Can he pick up a valuable win on his beloved red clay?

Vesely v Delbonis Prediction and Tip

Vesely has struggled to stamp his authority on clay this season. Delbonis is hardly having a great time on tour this year. But with uncertainty regarding Vesely’s condition and his transition from grass, we reckon the Argentine might come out on top here.

Tip: Delbonis to win: 11/20 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
