Anett Kontaveit v Ekaterine Gorgodze Head to Head

This will be their first meeting on the WTA Tour.

Kontaveit Coming off a Great Run

It’s been a year of ups and downs for the World No. 2 Anett Kontaveit. After reaching finals in big-ticket events like St. Petersburg and Doha, her form took a sharp drop as she contracted Covid-19.

She fell early in Rome and Paris; those losses set the precedent for the grass swing. The Estonian featured in just the Wimbledon Championships (round two loss to Jule Niemeier).

The road to recovery was long, but by the looks of it, Anett may very well be at the end of it. Last week, she reached the final in Hamburg (without dropping a set), where she lost to the in-form, on-a-12-match-win-streak American Bernarda Pera.

Therefore, it is only natural to prepare for surprises in Prague – which marks the start of the hard court swing. Kontaveit will need to adapt quickly; depending on her poise, the match can go either way. Lucky for her, Gorgodze shouldn’t be that big of a task.

Gorgodze, a Clay-Court Specialist

Ekaterine Gorgodze of Georgia, currently ranked World No. 126, faces a Herculean task in overcoming her formidable adversary. Not only is she likely to be out of her element on concrete, but she is also low on the momentum needed to knock out the likes of Kontaveit.

She is 18-19, with many of her wins coming in the early rounds/qualifiers on the WTA and ITF circuits. The 30-year-old reached two ITF finals (both on clay) and won a doubles title in WTA Budapest and Marbella Challenger.

She has won just one match in her last three tournaments – coming in the ITF Versmold. Ekaterine made it as far as round two before losing to Arianne Hartono.

Kontaveit v Gorgodze Prediction and Tip

Kontaveit is the heavy favourite – there is no denying it. She may find it difficult – possibly because of the sudden switch in the surface – but so will Gorgodze. Between the two, the former is well-positioned to handle it the best.

Tip: Kontaveit to win in straight sets: 7/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
