World No. 185 Raluca Georgiana Serban fought back from a set down to defeat Greece’s Despina Papamichail 4-6, 7-6, 6-1 on Sunday and enter the main draw of a tour level event for the first time this year.

The Cypriot had won her first qualifying round on Saturday, defeating Réka Luca Jani 7-5, 6-2.

The 25-year-old is a 12-time ITF champion from 18 finals. This year she picked up her fifth clay court title by beating Ekaterine Gorgodze at the ITF Bellinzona in April.

Lee Qualifies as a Lucky Loser

Ever since claiming her fifth career ITF title in Bonita Springs, Florida, in May, Gabriela Lee has struggled for form. She is 3-8 from her last 11 matches across levels, which includes the Poland Open qualifiers.

The World No. 146 won her opening qualifying round against Poland’s Zuzanna Bednarz 6-2, 6-0 on Saturday but lost in the second qualifying round on Sunday, falling to fellow Romanian Alexandra Cadanțu-Ignatik despite winning the first set comfortably. Cadanțu-Ignatik rallied to win 1-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Despite the loss, Lee made it to the main draw as a lucky loser.

Lee is 18-18 overall and 17-11 on clay this season. This will be her second tour-level main draw appearance. She had qualified for the Charleston Open but lost in the opening round to Jasmine Paolini.

The Romanian, ranked No. 146, will be hoping to make the most of the opportunity on Tuesday.
