Caroline Garcia v Elisabetta Cocciaretto Head to Head

Garcia has won both their previous meetings.

The first of those wins came in Rome last year, while the other win came in the second round in Palermo last week. Cocciaretto had bagelled Garcia in the first set, but the Frenchwoman fought back to win in three.

Garcia Overcomes Doi

Fifth seed Caroline Garcia closed in on another quarterfinal after the in-form Frenchwoman knocked out Japan’s Misaki Doi in straight sets on Monday.

The World No. 45 held off a stern challenge from the Japanese player in the opening set. Garcia had broken in the eighth game to take a 5-3 lead but was prevented from closing out the set in the next game as Doi got the break back immediately.

The former World no. 4 however broke a second time in the last game of the first set, converting a fourth set point and going one-up in the match.

After claiming the first set, the eight-time WTA winner found herself a break down in the second, but she fought back breaking Doi twice and winning the contest 7-5, 6-4.

Garcia, who recently claimed the Bad Homburg title, to end a three-year title drought, improved her season record to 23-14. Following the title success, Garcia reached the fourth round at Wimbledon, the semifinal in Lausanne and quarterfinal in Palermo. Can she keep her impressive run going in Poland?

Cocciaretto Dumps Out Kubka

World No. 105 Elisabetta Cocciaretto picked an easy win in the opening round, defeating Poland’s Martyna Kubka 6-2, 6-3.

Breaking Kubka in the fourth game of the first set, Cocciaretto built a 3-1 lead, but the World no. 472nd responded with an immediate break. That was the only blemish for the Italian during a near-perfect match. Cocciaretto stamped her authority, by breaking Kubka two more times and winning the last three games of the set to go one-up.

Cocciaretto broke the Pole early to build a 3-0 lead. There were no more breaks in the match. The Italian missed out on three match points in the eighth game but converted one of two in the next to progress.

Cocciaretto’s recent form has been good. She has won two ITF titles on clay this year and also finished runner-up once. She was also a finalist in WTA 125 Makarska last month.

A quarterfinalist in Budapest two weeks ago, Cocciaretto will be aiming for a second tour-level quarterfinal this year.
