Benoit Paire v Peter Gojowczyk Head to Head

They played four times before with each winning two matches however the most recent one was in 2017.

Bad Return From Paire

Benoit Paire stepped away from tennis recently citing exhaustion and a couple of days later he gave an interview where he admitted to battling depression. The French player has been struggling a lot with his tennis ever since the pandemic but it’s been particularly bad this year.

He was able to find some form late in the year last year but this year it looks unlikely to happen. His ranking dipped quite a bit and he’s fairly close to dropping out of the top 100 which would make things even harder for him.

After stepping away from tennis, Paire made his return in Atlanta where he got unlucky with the draw. Jenson Brooksby waited for him in round one and the youngster had no mercy winning 6-3 6-1. The loss made Paire’s score this year 6-23 and that’s beyond poor.

Perhaps things will change in the near future but it doesn’t seem likely. It also depends on the motivation level of Paire and you never know with him.

Gojowczyk Looking Solid

Peter Gojowczyk had a very strong North American stretch last year winning a couple of matches and reaching the second week at US Open. The German is a player who plays attacking tennis without question. Either it works well or he misses everything and loses.

The return at Atlanta went well for the most part. He took down a couple of solid players in qualifiers but failed to win the round one matchup against Adrian Mannarino. It was not a surprise as the French player does very well against players with little variety like Gojowczyk.

The German now turns his attention to Washington where he’ll play Paire. It’s a good matchup for him on paper and one where he will be able to impose his will. Gojowczyk needs wins because his season so far has been far from stellar.

He’s only 10-19 on the year and that far from his level last year.

Paire v Gojowczyk Prediction and Tip

This is a nightmare matchup to predict because both are so unpredictable. I’d like to believe that Paire will find some form in North America as he did last year but I’m skeptical.

I simply can’t back him in this spot so I’ll back Gojowczyk. It’s not the most comfortable endorsement but oh well. Take it or leave it.

Tip: Gojowczyk to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
