Tomas Etcheverry v Jason Kubler Head to Head

Tomas Etcheverry improved dramatically over the past two years and the Argentine is now in the top 100. He’ll look to continue his rise and improve even further but it will be a bit harder now that the season is on hard courts.
Being a native of Argentina means that you usually prefer clay tennis to hard court tennis and that’s true for Tomas as well. He played the vast majority of his matches on clay and he has a 33-18 record on it. He only played five matches on hard courts the entire year but he was solid with 2-3.
He has a powerful serve and interesting style of play but he hasn’t been playing that well recently. He lost the last three matches on clay he played and that might indicate a drop in form. I don’t know for sure but he’ll certainly have some issues in Los Cabos.
The unfamiliarity with hard courts is the main reason why.

Superb Form From Kubler
Jason Kubler played an excellent grass season but unfortunately, he was unable to cash on those points earned at Wimbledon. That leaves the Aussie ranked lower than usually would have been but he’s been playing so well that it doesn’t matter.
Kubler started off the year so but he improved every month and currently, he’s playing at a top 50 level comfortably. Whether he gets there by the end of the year remains to be seen but the confidence is there and his play is looking good.
Kubler has the typical Aussie game and it’s particularly dangerous on faster courts. He is 41-12 on the year with his most recent outing in Newport ending in a semi-final.
Los Cabos could be a good chance for him to earn some more points as the draw is fairly solid.
Etcheverry v Kubler Prediction and Tip
Their only meeting happened this year at the Australian Open and the Argentine won that match. Kubler has improved dramatically since then as did Etheverry but in these conditions, I think Kubler will be better.
I’ll back Jason to do the job because Etcheverry disappointed in the last matches he played and Kubler should be rested and motivated.
