Jenson Brooksby v Yoshihito Nishioka Head to Head

Brooksby has a losing record against Nishioka having lost to the Japanese in the semifinals of the Columbus Challenger at the start of the season.

Brooksby Could Meet De Minaur Again

At the time of writing, Jenson Brooksby is due to face Alex De Minaur in the final of the Atlanta Open. Brooksby will be going for his first ATP title, which comes on the backdrop of a very promising run in recent weeks.

And as fate would have it, Brooksby has been drawn to face the Australian in the second round of the Citi Open, likely in three days after their championship showdown.

De Minaur will have a bye in the first round, so that means World No. 43 Brooksby will need to get past Yoshihito Nishioka to book that second successive meeting in as many days.

Brooksby has been in rich vein form in Atlanta, scoring high-quality wins over McDonald, the defending champion Isner, and Frances Tiafoe. He is still a long way from replicating his breakout year in 2021, but that could all change with a title in Atlanta and another deep run in Washington.

Nishioka Fancying Another Upset Win

Yoshihito Nishioka crossed swords with Brooksby right at the start of the season at the Columbus Challenger. The Japanese left-hander won their semifinal duel in straight sets before going on to beat Dominik Stricker and lifted his sixth Challenger title.

Although he did not return to the winner’s circle for the second time this season, he did reach a second final just a week after in Cleaveland and ironically lost to Stricker.

Nishioka has showcased his good form sporadically during the first half of the season. A quarterfinal run in Acapulco was the best result he recorded at tour level, as was a third-round finish in Miami as a qualifier.

Nishioka has been busy in July, playing a couple of Challenger tournaments, reaching the semifinals in Porto and the quarterfinals of the Rome Challenger. Can he upset a fatigued Brooksby for the second time this year?

Brooksby v Nishioka Prediction and Tip

Fatigue could play a factor here. Brooksby is coming off a very demanding week in Atlanta, and plus the emotional toll of a potential title win, then it is worth backing Nishioka.

Tip: Nishioka to win: 13/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
