Reilly Opelka v Denis Kudla Head to Head
There have been no previous meetings between these two players at the highest level. Opelka does lead Kudla 2-1 on the Challenger circuit and qualifiers of ATP events.

At 17th in the world, Opelka has reached his career-best ranking and this is despite his recent struggles at the highest level.
The American comes into the tournament on the back of five defeats from his last six matches including a second round exit at Wimbledon. That was his last competitive match too and he now returns to kick-start his US Open Series campaign following a first round bye.
Opelka’s record in hard court competitions, that of 71-57, suggests playing on this surface is his strongest suit but then again it’s rather interestingly poised at 70-69 on outdoor hard courts.
Coming up against Kudla who has already played in a couple of matches on this surface this season might not be an easy proposition but the well-rested Opelka should still be a strong favourite.

Kudla Wins Battle of Americans
In what turned out to be a three-setter, Kudla overcame Michael Mmoh in his opener to break a three-match losing streak and proceed to round two.
The 82nd-ranked Kudla needed two hours and 17 minutes to come through in his opener, defeating Mmoh 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 to set up a meeting with Opelka. This followed a first round loss to Mackenzie McDonald in his opener last week in Atlanta.
Earlier this year, Kudla had won a Challenger title on hard court surfaces in Phoneix and then made it through the qualifiers to enter the third round at Miami.
Kudla has already won one battle of the Americans. The question is whether he can win a second one, against a much stronger player.
Opelka v Kudla Prediction and Tip
Opelka is 1/2 to win this but given his form and given Kudla’s preference for this surface, it might not be that straightforward for the world number 17. Could see a few games played in this one.
