Daria Kasatkina v Taylor Townsend Head to Head

It’s 1-0 to Kasatkina; they last met in the 2015 US Open qualifiers where the Russian prevailed in straight sets.

Townsend Moves Past Sanders

Former World No. 61 Taylor Townsend has returned to the WTA Tour this year after extended maternity leave.

The 26-year-old American has arrived in San Jose for the Silicon Valley Classic with a tally of 9-3 and a singles ranking of #316. She has taken things rather slowly and steadily in 2022, featuring in only four tournaments from April through to June.

She started as a qualifier here and beat Asia Muhammad and Emina Bektas to reach the main draw. There, she dismissed Australia’s Storm Sanders 6-1, 6-4 to reach round two.

Taylor has seen some success this year as she was a quarterfinalist in Palm Harbor and Charlottesville and won the title in Charleston.

However, the fact remains that she is low on form and momentum, and her hard-court rhythm may not be to the standards of the competitive field. Townsend has a fair bit of doubles experience to leverage, spanning three WTA finals, four on the Challenger circuit, and 24 on the ITF.

Kasatkina Stops Rybakina

World No. 12 Daria Kasatkina is off to a superb start in the competition as she beat the reigning Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina 1-6, 6-2, 6-0.

With this, she has fired warning shots in a star-studded field comprising the likes of Paula Badosa, Maria Sakkari, Ons Jabeur, and Aryna Sabalenka. As a runner-up from last year’s edition, her prospects of making it deep again look good.

Kasatkina has also improved her record to 28-14; her last tournament was in Hamburg, where she lost to Katerina Siniakova in the opener.

But apart from that, Daria has had a decent year with quarterfinal results in Berlin and Bad Homburg and semifinal stints in Melbourne, Sydney, Rome, and the French Open.

Kasatkina v Townsend Prediction and Tip

This match is Kasatkina’s to lose; she has the momentum, experience, and superb form to back it up with a big win and reach the quarterfinals.

Tip: Kasatkina to win 2-0: 3/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
