Radu Albot v Jason Kubler Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 32-year old Moldovan, and the Australian, who is three years younger.

Albot Struggles Past Spanish Veteran

Albot, who had been struggling to qualify for tournaments recently was glad to be spared the rigours of that in Los Cabos, and was even happier when he was paired with the Spanish veteran Feliciano Lopez, a man now 40 years old and ranked 267th in the world, in the first round.

But any notions that it would be an easy match for the Moldovan were soon disabused.

The pair swapped breaks in the first set, but then Albot broke again and this time consolidated it.

The second set became largely a service battle, although Lopez did have to save several break points. It went, though, to a tie-break, where Albot held three match points, only for the Spaniard to save all of them. And then when he was given a break point opportunity he took it to level the match.

The third set seemed to be swinging in favour of Albot when he secured an early break, but Lopez was not finished yet, and hit back to level, and then he held two more break points in the next Moldovan service game.

His failure, though, to convert them proved fatal as he was broken in turn next game, and Albot was finally able to serve out.

It had been a hard fought victory

Kubler Defeats Argentine Seed

Kubler showed what a dangerous player he can be on grass by coming through qualifying to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon, his best showing in a Grand Slam.

And he followed that up with a run to the semi-finals in Newport Beach, Felix Augur-Aliassime among his victims.

Back on hard courts, he made a winning start to his campaign in Mexico with a come from behind victory against the Argentine number eight seed, Tomas Martin Etcheverry, of Argentina.

The first set was dominated by serve until the point the Australian was broken, but he got the break back straight away, and a tie-break ensued. However, the Argentine, ranked 88th in the world, went on to claim it.

The tide began to turn when Etcheverry was broken early in the second set, and one more break enabled the Australian to level the match.

With his tail up by this time, Kubler raced into a 5 – 0 lead in the third set, and he closed out the match with a love service game.

Albot v Kubler Prediction and Tip

Although Albot is the higher ranked player, he struggled to beat Lopez and is not in good form right now. By contrast, Kubler will be feeling confident after his  exploits on grass, and will be looking to make further progress in Mexico.
