Paula Badosa v Elizabeth Mandlik Head to Head

This will be their first meeting on the WTA Tour.

Mandlik Upsets Riske-Amritraj

Elizabeth Mandlik is on fire in San Jose. She upset Fernanda Gomez and Jil Teichmann in the qualifiers, while in the main-draw opener, she defeated Alison Riske-Amritraj 6-3, 6-3.

The 21-year-old American is well-positioned for a breakthrough run in the US Open swing.

She has arrived in San Jose with an impressive tally of 28-14 and three ITF titles – all on hard courts.

Mandlik has fired warning shots with these wins and is undoubtedly a dark horse to beat. She has a fair bit of momentum to her game, having reached the late rounds in her last three ITF events.

Elizabeth is the daughter of eight-time Grand Slam finalist (four-time champion) Hana Mandlíková. By the looks of it, greatness runs in her blood, and if her early form is any indication, it may be a matter of time before the current World No. 240 starts making waves.

Badosa, with a Bye into Round Two

Number two seed Paula Badosa will kickstart her US Open swing on Wednesday.

For what it’s worth, she has a good track record in the country – earlier in the season, she was a semifinalist in the Indian Wells Open and a quarterfinalist in Miami. Apart from this, the 24-year-old Spaniard also won the Sydney International in January.

Now ranking World No. 4, Badosa’s current tally stands at 27-13, with her most recent result being the fourth-round stint in the Wimbledon championships.

As a top 10 player, Paula has a rich pedigree and an impressive resume against several big names on the WTA Tour. On paper, should make quick work of Mandlik, but given the youngster’s menacing form, she is in for a battle.

Badosa v Mandlik Prediction and Tip

The match is currently in Badosa’s favour, but Mandlik’s chances cannot be underestimated. Youngsters have been known to cause all sorts of upset; Elizabeth has a fair bit of rhythm to her game and may very well make life difficult for her opponent.

Expect a cracking match.
