Saville was a 3/1 underdog going into her second round match at the Washington Open given she was taking on the top seed in the tournament, Jessica Pegula. That, however, did not matter too much as the Aussie coasted to a straight-set win over her opponent.
In a match lasting a mere hour and 39 minutes, Saville registered a 7-5, 6-4 victory, as she saved nine of the 10 break-points she faced in the encounter.
It was this very fighting capability that helped the Aussie carve out her 12th win in hard court competitions to go with just seven defeats – a win-loss record better some of the best in the world for the season.
Saville missed out on serving for the set at 5-4 in the opener but broke Pegula again in the 11th game before wrapping it up in the next. She then made it two breaks in a row by getting better of her opponent’s serve in the very first game of the second set, holding on to that slender lead to complete the victory.

Marino Makes it Four Three-Setters in a Row
Having needed to qualify for the event with back to back victories in three sets, Marino has now won both her first two rounds in similar fashion to make it four successive three-setters.
And this time around at the receiving end of her sharp play was Andrea Petkovic, whom she defeated 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 to make it to the quarterfinal. This will be the first time this season Marino would be participating in the last eight stage of a WTA event.
Earlier in the opening round, Marino had gotten past Venus Williams after coming back from a set down.
She now takes in a player who has done well in recent times and that could make things rather difficult for the Canadian qualifier.
