Andrey Rublev v J.J. Wolf Head to Head

This will be their first meeting on the ATP Tour.

Rublev Storms Past Cressy

World No. 8 Andrey Rublev is off to a flying start in the Citi Open 2022 as he dismissed Jack Draper 6-4, 6-2. He continued in the same vein when he beat Maxime Cressy in the third round 6-4, 7-6(10) on Friday – to later feature in the quarterfinal on the same day.

The 24-year-old Russian has had a brilliant season so far; with a tally of 32-11, Andrey has pretty much cemented his place in the top 10.

His keynotes include the three ATP titles in Open 13, Dubai Tennis Championships, and Serbia Open. Rublev was also a quarterfinalist in the French Open, thus displaying his astounding prowess to consistently play on any surface.

His preparations for the US Open seem to align with his plans. The bracket in Washington is pretty much open for him, with his following potential threats likely to come from Holger Rune and Taylor Fritz/Karen Khachanov.

Like his counterpart, Rublev too will play two matches in one day in a matter of hours. However, his superior experience and prowess should help him navigate this.

Wolf on a Roll

Jeffrey John Wolf, playing with a wildcard in the competition, upset the number six seed Denis Shapovalov 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-3 to reach round three. In the opening match, he stunned Taro Daniel 6-2, 6-3.

Building on these wins, he dispatched the number nine seed, rising Danish prodigy Holger Rune 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, to make it to the final eight – shortly after Rublev played his match. The match lasted for two and a half hours.

The 23-year-old is currently ranked World No. 99 and has spent most of his year competing in Challenger events. While J.J. hasn’t seen much success there, he was still consistent enough to reach the late stages in the hard-court events of Phoenix, Orlando, and Rome.

His last ATP event was in Atlanta, where he retired against Donald Young in the qualifying opener after battling for three sets.

Wolf is young and has the benefit of stamina on his side. A few hours of rest should prepare him well.

Rublev v Wolf Prediction and Tip

This match can swing either way. Both players have had exhausting matches – notably Wolf. In these times, anything can happen, but the odds are with Rublev.
