Diego Schwartzman v Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Head to Head

They played three times and Schwartzman won all three. The most recent one came in Paris two years ago. Diego won 6-1 6-1.

Schwartzman Back From Clay

Diego Schwartzman generally plays well on these North American hard court events and he expects that to continue this year. It would be good for him as he did not have a very good time on the clay courts of Europe after Wimbledon. It’s been a strange season for the Argentine.

He played a lot of matches and won 27 of them which is fairly good he has very little to show for it. His ranking is stable but the lack of trophies is something he would certainly like to change. Montreal has been kind to him in the past as he played the quarterfinal here in 2017 so he certainly can reach a high level on these courts.

It will all depend on how he feels returning to the hard courts after clay. He opted against any prep events so he will certainly be a bit rusty and the draw gave him Davidovich Fokina which is usually a roller coaster of a match.

He’s beaten him three times so far so perhaps he can draw some inspiration from there albeit it happened a while ago. Diego went 18-10 on hard courts last year but he’s only 4-4 this year.

Fokina Hopeful for Wins

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is literally the definition of an up and down season. The Spaniard played only one superb event in Monte-Carlo reaching the final but since then it’s been a couple of wins and then a loss. And then a terrible loss and a couple of wins.

There is no consistency in his game whatsoever which makes him a super fun watch. There is a tremendous amount of talent there and it just needs to be fully unlocked. A clay specialist by trait, Fokina is capable of playing strong tennis on hard courts.

He can serve well and attack really well but also go on missing sprees that are horrific to watch. One of those happened in his last match against Schwartzman which the Argentine won 6-1 6-1. The last event Fokina played was in Hamburg and since then he’s been on a short vacation so he should be refreshed.

Will it matter? Probably not but we might see him spray some more errors due to the lack of practice.

Schwartzman v Davidovich Fokina Prediction and Tip

So this matchup will fall on Fokina. As odd as that sounds his best is certainly capable of beating Schwartzman. His not-so-best will get him beaten easily.

I’m not sure what will happen as I don’t expect a very pretty match as they will both be rusty but I’ll back Schwartzman simply because he is more consistent.

Tip: Schwartzman to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
