Newport Beaten Finalist Bublik

Bublik reached the second round in Canada last year, the only time he has won a match in this tournament.

In fact, historically he has struggled in hard court Masters’ events, and he has a disappointing record at the US Open as well.

However, after a year when Bublik broke his losing sequence in ATP finals by winning in Montpellier in February, beating Alexander Zverev in the final, he may be hoping for better things in 2022.

Most recently, he reached another final in Newport Beach, where he beat Andy Murray before losing to the American Maxime Cressy in the final.

Atlanta Runner-Up Brooksby

If there is one man who knows how Bublik felt about being a perpetual runner-up it is Brooksby, who has lost three finals in the past 13 months, including at Newport Beach last year, and in Dallas in February.

His most recent experience of this came in Atlanta, where he beat compatriots Mackenzie McDonald, John Isner, and Frances Tiafoe, before losing in straight sets to the Australian Alex de Minaur.

Perhaps as a reaction to his efforts in Atlanta, he then lost in the first round in Washington last week to the Japanese player Yoshihito Nishioka.

This will be the second time Brooksby has played the Canadian Masters. He was beaten in the first round last year,

Bublik v Brooksby Prediction and Tip

Given that Bublik’s last match was on the grass or Newport, Brooksby may feel that he is better acclimatised to the surface than the Kazakh, and will be hoping to translate his Atlanta form into this match.
