Gael Monfils v Jack Draper Head to Head

This will be their first meeting on the WTA Tour.

Draper Stuns Tsitsipas

20-year-old Jack Draper, currently ranked World No. 82, has just posted the first top-10 win of his career by knocking out the Greek No. 1 Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Impressively enough, Draper delivered the win in straight sets with 7-5, 7-6(4), in two hours. He was better than Stefanos in terms of first-service game and unforced errors (17 vs. 36); however, he did dish out only 21 winners.

Nonetheless, a win is a win, and now, the youngster has recorded his best ATP results. His previous best feat was the semifinal run in Eastbourne 250.

Jack started as a qualifier in Montreal and made his way to round three after beating Roberto Marcora, Quentin Halys, Hugo Gaston, and Tsitisipas – all in straight sets.

For what it’s worth, his hard-court pedigree is strong, having won four Challenger titles already this season.

Monfils Passes Cressey Test

34-year-old Gael Monfils has done well to move past the youngsters like Pedro Martinez ( 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-2) and Maxime Cressey (7-6(10), 7-6(8)).

One more win and the Frenchman would have reached the quarterfinal in the Canadian Open for the second successive season. He has a good track record in the tournament, with a semifinal run in 2016 and 2019.

Monfils, now ranked World No. 20, has approached the season cautiously, with his tally now standing at 14-6. His last tournament was the Madrid Open, where he lost to Novak Djokovic in round two.

Earlier in the year, Gael enjoyed a bit of success – all on hard courts – by winning the Adelaide International 1 and later reaching the quarterfinal in the Australian Open.

Draper v Monfils Prediction and Tip

This match will be a fitness test for aging Monfils. However, given his far superior experience over Draper, he should be able to counter to some extent.

That said, backing Jack to win this one may not be the worst play to make – especially since he is on a roll this year.
