Kyrgios 16-4 on Hard Courts Despite Montreal Loss

Kyrgios has been going through the kind of purple patch in his career that could well be a turning point for him. And that began even before his Wimbledon final appearance last month where he could have had a shot at the title.

And even in hard court competitions in the first quarter of the season, there was a quarterfinal appearance at Indian Wells Open and he made it all the way through to the fourth round in Miami.

More recently, Kyrgios has looked like he has added another gear to his play.

The Aussie, who will break into the top 30 when the rankings are released next Monday, won the Washington Open a few days ago and then made it as far as the quarterfinal in Montreal. And while Kyrgios lost a three-setter to Hubert Hurkacz, he had already gotten the better of Daniil Medvedev and Alex de Minaur by then.

Davidovich Fokina Hoping to Better Last Week’s Showing

While Kyrgios has rediscovered a side of his tennis that wasn’t going for him earlier, this seems to be a season to forget for Alejandro Fokina.

The Spaniard might have reached the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters but that showing quickly running into the risk of being termed as a flash in the pan. Of the remaining 32 matches that Alejandro Fokina has featured in the season, he has won just 13.

Coming into this competition, Alejandro Fokina fell in the quarterfinal of the clay-court competition in Hamburg and was then sent packing by Diego Schwartzman in the opener in Montreal.

And while he might have given himself a chance against the old Kyrgios, this new and improved and a more focussed version might be a cup too hot to handle.
