Leylah Fernandez v Ekaterina Alexandrova Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came earlier this year in Adelaide where Fernandez moved past Alexandrova in the first round in straight sets.

After missing out on the entire grass court season following her quarterfinal showing at French Open, Fernandez returned to the circuit with her first appearance at the US Open Series when she took part in the Canadian Open last week.
She finished up losing to Beatriz Haddad Maia in the second round, after having scraped through her first round win against Storm Sanders.
The rustiness was evident in both of Fernandez’s matches but with now having gotten that out of the way, she would be a lot more confident starting things out here.
Earlier this year, Fernandez had won her second WTA title which came on the hard courts of Monterrey Open. It was her second title, having won at the same tournament last season too.

Alexandrova Out of Action for Two Months
Since bowing out of the WTA Berlin second round, Alexandrova hasn’t played any competitive tennis for two months now.
Unable to participate at Wimbledon because of the tournament organisers’ ban on Russian and Belarusian players, Alexandrova opted not to take part in any of the tournaments in the US till now.
Alexandrova, who had earlier won the Rosmalen Open title in June, will enter this match on the back of just three wins from eight hard court matches this season.
That’s bit of a surprise for the world number 28 given she has won all of three titles before the Rosmalen one on hard courts. Can she turn things around against her Canadian opponent here?
