Can Kecmanovic Navigate the First Round this Week?

Kecmanovic continues to be a consistent performer on tour, although he has yet to add to the one senior singles title he won on the clay of Kitzbuhel two years ago.

However, he has tasted champagne again this month, after winning the doubles in Los Cabos with partner William Blumberg of the USA.

He would dearly love to find the form again in Cincinnati that he showed in the first two American hard court Masters’ tournaments of the season, when he reached successive quarter-finals in Indian Wells and Miami.

His first task, though, is to navigate safely through the opening round, something he failed to do in Montreal last week, when he was well beaten in straight sets by the Dutch player Botic van de Zandschulp.

Canadian Open Winner Careno Busta

Carreno Busta has just won the biggest tournament of his career to date, beating Hubert Hurkasz in three sets to clinch the Canadian Open, his first Masters’ title.

In the course of a week in Montreal he defeated Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner as well, and, had that happened a few days earlier, he would surely have been seeded in Cincinnati.

His victory in Canada was his seventh in all on the senior tour, and confirmed his ability to compete on hard courts as well as the clay on which he was brought up.

And he might well fancy his chances of doing well again this week, having twice previously been a quarter-finalist in Cincinnati, including last year when his run was eventually stopped by Daniil Medvedev (the top seed this week).

Kecmanovic v Carreno Busta Prediction and Tip

Much may depend on Carreno Busta’s powers of mental and physical recovery after his exertions in Montreal, as tournament winners often experience a negative reaction the following week. However, if he is able to recuperate ion time, them he will start favourite to again do well in a tournament where he has a good record.

Tip: Carreno Busta to win: 5/7 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
