Petra Kvitova v Sorana Cirstea Head to Head
There have been nine previous meetings between these two players and Kvitova holds a slight edge at 5-4.
Interestingly, all four of Cirstea’s wins have come on hard court surfaces, while Kvitova has won none on them. Their most recent outing came at the Australian Open earlier this year which Cirstea won 6-2, 6-2 in their opener.

Kvitova Scrapes Past Teichmann
There wasn’t much to choose between Kvitova and Jil Teichmann when they faced off in the first round and in the end the match also turned out to be something similar.
The world number 28 needed two hours and 50 minutes to get past Teichmann, winning 6-7 (2), 7-6 (6), 6-3. In the process, Kvitova needed to save a match-point in the second tie-breaker when she fell 5-6 behind but rallied back to win the next three points in a row and push the match into a decider.
By now, a rather confident-looking Kvitova broke Teichmann early in the third set and then again as she served to stay in the contest at 3-5.
Kvitova was coming into this one on the back of successive defeats that included a first round exit at the Canadian Open.

Cirstea Shocker for Bencic
Following a rare semifinal appearance on the grass courts of the Birmingham Open earlier this year, Cirstea seemed to have hit a bit of a rut form-wise.
A first round defeat in Nottingham followed soon after and Cirstea then fell to Tatjana Maria in the second round at Wimbledon. What was rather strange was her opening defeat on the hard courts of Prague where the unheralded Oksana Selekhmeteva sent her packing in straight sets.
After missing the Canadian Open last week, Cirstea would have been hoping for a kinder draw but ended up drawing Belinda Bencic, going in at 7/2 winning odds against the in-form Swiss.
However, the short break seemed to have done a world of good for Cirstea as she completed a three-set win over Bencic.
Can she continue exhibiting something similar against Kvitova too?
