Aryna Sabalenka v Anna Kalinskaya Head to Head

They played three times and Sabalenka leads 2-1.

Serving Woes Continue For Sabalenka

Aryna Sabalenka is playing really solid tennis at the moment but she is sabotaging herself in a major way with her serve. This part of the season allows players a lot of free points thanks to the serve because the courts are fast. They do for Sabalenka as well but she’s committing 10-15 double faults per match which are way too many.

Some of those double faults end up costing her in a major way and it was on full display last week in Toronto. Despite solid play overall, Sabalenka was unable to overcome those cheap mistakes getting beaten by Coco Gauff. If you take away that, she’s actually hitting the ball very well.

With the US Open coming up in a few weeks it’s an issue she’ll need to fix if she hopes for a deep run. She played really well at the Open last year so she likes it there. The year has been mediocre so far with a 21-16 record and only 8-9 on hard courts.

A semifinal here in 2018 is proof she can go deep in Cincinnati.

Kalinskaya’s Looking for 4th Win

Anna Kalinskaya has already won three matchs this week in Cincinnati and it comes after she skipped over the Toronto event last week. The prep event she played leading up to this stretch was Washington and it was a quarterfinal exit to Kaia Kanepi.

This week it’s looking quite good as well. Wins in the qualifiers over Tatjana Maria and Anastasia Potapova are notable as well as a win in round one over Martina Trevisan. The Italian is not a good hard-court player but she can play good tennis.

Kalinskaya passed that test really well and she’s striking the ball with a lot of confidence. She likes to attack and she’ll try to do that as best as she can do against Sabalenka but it’s unlikely she’ll generate more power. The year has been a good one with a 22-16 record and 17-6 on hard.

It’s her first stay in Cincinnati and so far it’s looking good.

Sabalenka v Kalinskaya Prediction and Tip

They played a couple of times in the past and Sabalenka won two of those three matches. The Belarussian is the better hard court player overall and hits the ball quite a bit harder. Kalinskaya will try to stay in rallies but it will be tough.

I do think the Russian will trouble her because she faced a similar player recently in Washington. If she can stay in the match I can see this being a close one but still think Sabalenka will win.

Tip: Sabalenka to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
