It’s been a good year for Rebecca Marino, who brings an overall season record of 36-17 into the tournament.
The 31-year-old, who suffered back-to-back losses in Toronto and WTA 125K in Vancouver over the last two weeks, recently featured in the quarterfinals of the Washington Open. She had reached that stage by beating Venus Williams and Andrea Petkovic before falling to Daria Saville.
A 13-time ITF winner, Marino has reached three finals this year. She won one title and finished runner-up in two events.
She was also a semifinalist in one of the ITF events in Cancun.
The Canadian is 25-9 across levels on hard courts and will be looking to make an impressive start at home.

Mboko Making Debut
Fifteen-year-old Victoria Mboko will be making her singles debut on the tour.
She has had a splendid season so far. Mboko was a finalist at the Australian Open and the Wimbledon junior doubles competition and was also a semifinalist at the Wimbledon junior singles competition.
The World No. 516 also reached two ITF finals this year, finishing runner-up in Monastir, Tunisia and winning the title in Saskatoon, Canada.
She made her WTA doubles debut at the Canadian Open, playing with partner Kayla Cross, but she went down in the first round.
She would be looking to gain some vital experience in Granby. Can she punch above her weight in opener?
