Ekaterina Alexandrova v Madison Brengle Head to Head
Alexandrova leads 1-0, although that sole victory came back in the 2014 ITF Wiesbaden in straight sets.

Number three seed Ekaterina Alexandrova had a rocky start in Cleveland as she battled Lauren Davis for three sets to win the match 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Now ranked World No. 28, the 27-year-old Russian arrived in the States after a month-long break following the Bett1Open, where she lost to Daria Kasatkina in round two.
Her last (and sole) American tournament in the US Open swing was the Cincinnati Open, where she fell to Shuai Zhang in round two – but not before upsetting Leylah Fernandez in the opener.
Alexandrova has enjoyed a decent season, although all of that success has come on courts other than hard. She was a semifinalist in Charleston and Madrid and later a champion in the Libema Open.
However, on the doubles side of things, she did reach the semis in Miami and the quarterfinal in Cinci.

Brengle Overcomes Gracheva
Madison Brengle also had a demanding affair in her opening-round bout in Cleveland as she beat Varvara Gracheva 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
The 32-year-old has now improved her record for the season to 21-21 and looks to deliver a deep run ahead of the US Open.
Her season so far has been largely uneventful as it went by with early exits in several tournaments. She did deliver some results in a handful of tournaments – notably the Qatar Open and Miami Open where she reached round three.
Most recently, Brengle was a quarterfinalist in Vancouver Challenger, where she fell to Emma Navarro.

Alexandrova will start as the odds-on favourite, but seeing Brengle playing at home, an upset is certainly on the cards.
Both players have had long, demanding matches and it may very well be the case in round two as well.
