Diego Schwartzman v Jack Sock Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players and it came on the clay courts of Rome in 2017. Rather surprisingly, it was Sock who got the better of his opponent in that encounter.

Schwartzman 3-2 in US Open Series

While Schwartzman continues to excel in clay court competitions, hard courts remain a bit of a challenge for him.

That can be seen from his overall career record on such courts, and his record in both, this season and the ongoing US Open Series.

The most number of matches he’s won in a hard court tournament this season has been a mere two. And while Schwartzman did that at the ATP Cup in the very first tournament he featured in this year, it took him another seven months to repeat that feat.

It happened again for the Argentine at the Cincinnati Masters where he defeated Alex Molcan and Aslan Karatsev to make it to the third round. There he fell to Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets.

Can he get the better of the now-struggling Sock?

Sock Struggling at the Highest Level

Sock is a former top-10 player and has seen better days on court. These days, his struggles have forced him to feature on the lower Challenger circuit and while he would be happy with his showing there, Sock would love for some of that to convert into victories on the ATP main.

Like coming into this year’s US Open, Sock has won just seven of his main draw matches and lost nine.

This includes a third round visit at Wimbledon as a qualifier – his best performance by far – and a second round appearance at Washington but it also seen him getting bumped out of the Cincinnati Masters qualifiers.

The only ray of hope for Sock is he is starting off against a player who doesn’t relish hard court surfaces too much despite the obvious difference in the ranking. Can he put up a fight?

Schwartzman v Sock Prediction and Tip

While Sock knows hard courts are a weakness for his opponent, the best we expect him to do is to push Schwartzman to a fifth set.
