It has been a whirlwind season for the current World No. 23 Barbora Krejcikova. Just in February, she reached her career-best ranking as World No. 2, and now, on the back of injury and the consequent drop in form and recovery, she is out of the top 20.
Her record for the year now stands at 15-12, as the Czech arrives in New York on the back of a largely uneventful US Open swing.
She lost in the first round in Toronto and Cincinnati, while in Cleveland last week, she succumbed to the rising American Bernarda Pera 6-4, 6-1 in round two.
Although Krejcikova won the doubles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon with Katerina Siniakova, her recent rut may make it difficult for her to translate some of that success into a good run at the Flushing Meadows.

Gomez Clears the Qualifiers
24-year-old Mexican Fernanda Contreras Gomez is set to make her US Open main draw debut. Currently ranked World No. 201, she achieved this feat after beating the likes of Andrea Garcia, Ana Bogdan, and Tamara Korpatsch in the weekly qualifiers.
With these, her tally has now improved to 30-19 – with a good chunk of those wins coming in the qualifying rounds of the WTA events and ITF tournaments.
Her best season run is a couple of semifinal appearances in Canberra 4 and Prague.
Gomez has been a lot more impressive on the doubles side of things, as she has six finals to her name on the ITF circuit (four titles, two runner-ups).
Krejcikova v Gomez Prediction and Tip
A straight-set win for Krejcikova is certainly the most likely outcome, but for those who like to bet on underdogs with great odds, this is one of those matches.
Barbora isn’t in the best of form, while Contreras Gomez, propelled by her stellar year and the resulting confidence, will fancy her chances of capitalising on a weary, out-of-sorts Krejcikova.
