Anyone who is a fan of Martina Trevisan, current World No. 27, knows rather well that she is a clay-court specialist with a strong affinity for the surface.
10 of 11 ITF finals have come on this surface, in addition to her maiden singles WTA title and Challenger final. Earlier in the season, Trevisan also stormed into the French Open semifinal.
That Grand Slam run propelled Martina into the top 30, but the 28-year-old Italian has clearly struggled since to build on that momentum. The result in Paris was followed by first-round losses in Bad Homburg and Wimbledon. Later in the North American swing, she fell in the opening matches in Toronto and Cincinnati.
Last week in Cleveland, Trevisan beat Mayar Sheriff in the round of 32 but later withdrew from the tournament.

Rodina, Playing under PR
33-year-old Russian Evgeniya Rodina is making a comeback to the tour after a hiatus of over three years. Her last tournament was in June 2019 in Eastbourne, where she lost in the opener to Ons Jabeur.
Rodina has since been away from the action and is effectively starting from scratch. She is a former World No. 67 who has never made it past the second round at the Flushing Meadows over her long career.
Rodina hasn’t quite managed to win a singles title either, with her best results being the doubles runner-up feat in Gstaad in 2016 and later, reaching the final in a couple of Challenger events in Taipei and Limoges.
Trevisan v Rodina Prediction and Tip
Trevisan could not have asked for a more comfortable opener in many ways. She will fancy her chances against the possibly rusty, out-of-form, low-on-momentum Rodina, but then again, so will her opponent. After all, Martina is not that unbeatable on hard courts.
This match can go either way, but we may be looking at a few too many games.
