World No. 21, former #2, Petra Kvitova, has had a rocky spell in 2022. Although her tally stands at a respectable 22-16, she hasn’t been the most consistent performer on the circuit.
That said, she certainly seems ready to turn it around at the Flushing Meadows in New York.
Most recently, the 32-year-old was the runner-up in Cincinnati Open, beating the likes of Jil Teichmann, Ons Jabeur, and Madison Keys en route to the final. She ultimately lost to Caroline Garcia in straight sets but set herself up nicely for the season’s final major.
Kvitova’s other highlights include a title run in the Eastbourne 500 (her 29th singles title) and a couple of quarterfinal stints in Miami and Dubai.

Andreeva Clears the Qualifiers
18-year-old Erika Andreeva is set to make her Grand Slam debut at the US Open – a feat she achieved after clearing the qualifiers last week.
Her journey entailed wins over Dea Herdželaš, Rebeka Masarova, and Kamilla Rakhimova.
With this, Andreeva’s year-to-date tally now stands at 36-14, having spent most of her season on the ITF circuit. She has seen some success – notably with a runner-up feat in a $100k event in Spain (as a qualifier) and a handful of late-stage appearances.
Her WTA Tour track record is slim, with her best run coming in St. Petersburg, where she reached the final qualifying round.
