Title, title, runner-up, semifinal. Those are Bernarda Pera’s results in the last four tournaments she featured in leading up to the U.S. Open. Thanks to those performances, the American has jumped from No. 130 in June to a career-high of No. 45 this week.

Pera won her maiden WTA title in Budapest in July and then followed it up with a title in Hamburg the following week.

She then played at a WTA 125 event in Concord, reaching the final before falling to Coco Vandeweghe. She continued her good form in Cleveland, defeating Barbora Krejcikova and Sofia Kenin, en route the semis but was stopped from reaching a fourth consecutive final by Liudmilla Samsonova.

Pera also won her maiden doubles title this year, winning the Melbourne Summer Set title with Kateřina Siniaková.

In singles, Pera is 32-16 this season, from all levels. She was also a finalist in WTA 125 in Karlsruhe earlier this year.

Pera, who has reached the third round of a Grand Slam just once, at the Australian open in 2018, will be playing in the main draw of the U.S. Open for the fifth time. She has reached the second round twice and has lost the opener the other two times. Coming into this year’s tournament in great form, she will be hoping to do better than the past years.

Kalinina Has Lost the Last Six Main Draw Matches

When was the last time that Anhelina Kalinina won a main draw match? It was back in June, in the first round of Wimbledon, when she came back from a set down to beat Anna Bondár.

She lost in the second round to compatriot Lesia Tsurenko and since then has lost her first round matches in all of the five tournaments that she has played in. She was forced to withdraw after losing the first set at the Hungarian Open, but was beaten convincingly in San Jose, Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Open, where she was playing as a qualifier.

Kalinina also lost her opening round match in Cleveland last week, but she took a set of Laura Siegemund before going down.

This is the first year, when Kalinina would have competed in all the four majors. She lost in the opening round at the Australian Open but reached the second round of both the other majors.

The 25-year-old, ranked No. 47 in the world maybe coming in on the back of six consecutive losses, but she was going well in the earlier part of the season. She made the fourth round of the Miami Open and reached the quarters in Charleston, Madrid and Eastbourne. As a result of those solid performances she has a 20-18 record this season.
