Victoria Azarenka v Marta Kostyuk

Victoria Azarenka needs a good deep run to gain back some confidence after a very lacklustre season so far. Her score is 18-10 which is fairly strong but overall she’s not played that much and hasn’t had any signature performances.

It’s a shame because she’s still capable of producing a very high level, especially on courts like these.

Marta Kostyuk on the other hand has been picking ups the team lately. The Ukrainian is fierce on and off the court and it’s showing this year. 23-14 and 17-8 on hard courts will make Azarenka certainly take notice. Her aggressive playstyle is a natural fit on these courts and she’s looking more and more like the favourite to win this.

It’s their first meeting so anything can happen but realistically, Kostyuk is playing better at the moment. She doesn’t like to play against walls like Azarenka so she might be frustrated and when she does, it’s usually error sprees. Either way, it’s a very good matchup that looks like a don’t-miss match.

Tough to say who will win but I expect quite a battle and a longish affair.

Tip: Over 20.5 Games: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)

Grigor Dimitrov v Brandon Nakashima

Both of these players started well in the US Open scoring 3-set victories over very decent opponents. Dimitrov impressed far more by smashing Steve Johnson but Nakashima is a very solid player who is slowly making his way to the top of tennis.

They played once before this year and it was on clay in Rome with Dimitrov winning that match in straight sets. The Bulgarian will be favoured here once more after simply being more dominant in his win. He’s had some success at the US Open over the years and actually played some decent tennis lately.

Nakashima will have the crowd behind him and that should help him in this matchup. Generally, I do think it will be a very close match, certainly one where both players will be able to secure the win but I don’t see Dimitrov messing this up.

He looks motivated and in great shape.

Tip: Dimitrov to win: 7/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)

Borna Coric v Jenson Brooksby

After dominating his way to a Cincinnati trophy, Coric came down back to Earth in his first-round matchup. He needed 5 sets to win the match and move on and there was very little of his Cincinnati form visible in that match. He’ll need it against Brokosby who is playing really well and feeling himself when he plays on US soil.

He’ll have the backing of the American crowd which will help him tremendously in moments of doubt. The aggressive playstyle of both makes this a very interesting matchup where I expect both will be able to snatch a set. I do think Coric will be able to secure the win.

Brooksby lacks a bit of rhythm having not played a full match yet. That might prove costly as the match goes on and Coric stars playing better and better. The Croatian is streaky and he needs some time to get properly into a match. We’ve seen it in Cincinnati and I think we’ll see it again here.

I do think he’ll end up winning though.

Tip: Coric to win AND Both players to win a set: 6/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
