Matteo Berrettini v Andy Murray Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Berrettini leads the head to head 2-1.
Interestingly, both of Berrettini’s wins have come on grass including one at the Stuttgart Open earlier this year. Murray had won his encounter in Beijing in 2019.

Berrettini Stretched by Grenier
Having come into his second round match at 1/10 odds to clinch it against Hugo Grenier, Berrettini would have been expected to make a quick entry and exit from the arena.
However, Grenier proved to be a tough cookie to handle as he kept Berrettini on court for three hours and 28 minutes and four sets before the Italian could squeak past him.
Berrettini won 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (7) to make it to the third round, with Grenier missing out on a set-point in the fourth set to push it into the decider. Incidentally, both players lost their serves twice apiece in the match – Berrettini in the first set and Grenier in the second.
Earlier, Berrettini had dispatched Nicholas Jarry in the first round and will now need to register his first win over Murray on hard court.

Murray Tames Nava after Slow Start
Much like Berrettini, Murray also lost the first set of his second round match against Emilio Nava but from there on he had no trouble in taming his opponent and sealing his third round berth.
The 2012 winner here, Murray hadn’t made past the second hurdle at the US Open since 2018 and when he was broken while serving to stay in the first set at 5-6, it looked like he might have to wait for another season for that to happen.
Except, this time around, Murray came back quickly by breaking Nava in the fifth game of the second and adding five more breaks of serves over the next two sets to complete the victory.
Having routed Francisco Cerundolo in the first round, Murray will now face his first true test of the competition.
Berrettini v Murray Prediction and Tip
Berrettini is an obvious favourite but at 1/2 looks to be a tempting pick. One reason why he is this long is his form on hard court surfaces hasn’t been the best while Murray can hold his own here. We could see Berrettini winning but with Murray pushing him to a fourth or a fifth.
