Diego Schwartzman v Frances Tiafoe Head to Head
Three previous meetings between these two players have yielded two wins for Schwartzman and one for Tiafoe.
Interestingly, all three matches came last year with Schwartzman winning on the clay courts of Barcelona and at the Cincinnati Masters that followed while Tiafoe pulling one back at Vienna.

In the end, it turned out to be a straight-set win for Diego Schwartzman but it could still have gone either way. The Argentine needed three hours and 45 minutes in a gruelling second round encounter to progress to the round three.
Schwartzman came through 7-6 (3), 7-5, 7-6 (6) against Alexei Popyrin in a match that saw a whopping 35 break-points on offer. In the end, it was Schwartzman’s three breaks of serves to his opponent’s two that helped him nudge forward along with his ability to hold his nerve better at crucial points during the encounter.
In the first set, for instance, Schwartzman overcame four set-points against him, in the second he was a break down while in the third Popyrin again had a set-point which the Argentine thwarted before winning it.
Having struggled through his opening round fixture against Jack Sock and only making it through because of an injury to his opponent, Schwartzman will know he has his back against the wall coming into this one.

Similar Win for Tiafoe As Well
Much like Schwartzman, Tiafoe also registered a straight-set victory in his second round match and in a manner not so dissimilar from his opponent. In fact the scoreline was the same, with Tiafoe winning 7-6 (3), 7-5, 7-6 (2) to proceed to round three for the third season in a row.
Tiafoe was on court for three hours and 11 minutes and faced 10 break-points in the encounter.
While Kubler converted two of them, Tiafoe did well to break his opponent thrice and then once in those tie-breakers, managed to carve out easy wins.
Earlier in the opening round, Tiafoe had sealed off a victory in three sets against Marcos Giron too and while he hasn’t been in much of form coming into this tournament – 6-4 win-loss at the US Open Series – Tiafoe will be a lot more confident than Schwartzman.

Expecting another solid battle that sees a lot of breaks of serves but at the same time for Tiafoe’s better form on hard court to pull him through.
