Iga Swiatek v Aryna Sabalenka Head to Head

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has made history in New York by becoming the first Polish woman to reach the semifinal at the Flushing Meadows.
In what has been a remarkable campaign for her, the 21-year-old Pole dismissed the local favourite Jessica Pegula 6-3, 7-6(4) to reach the final four. There were moments in that match, however, where Swiatek seemed a bit out of her element as she committed 32 unforced errors on the whole.
Nonetheless, she got the job done with a higher number of winners and an immaculate composure.
Swiatek has brushed aside her competition in the bracket with relative ease, moving past Jasmine Paolini, Lauren Davis, Sloane Stephens, and Jule Niemeier previously.
With these wins, Iga is now at an incredible 55-7 in 2022 with over $6.5 million in prize money. She has six singles titles to her name – all in the WTA 500 tier and above – including the French Open.
Although the Pole is the youngster among the semifinalists, she has the best track record of all. Swiatek hasn’t been an easy player to beat this season – but Sabalenka will look to change that. She can take cues from Iga’s early exits in Cincinnati and Toronto to Madison Keys and Beatriz Haddad Maia.

Sabalenka Revives her Form
Aryna Sabalenka, current World No. 6, has redeemed herself in the US Open swing following a lacklustre start to the 2022 WTA Tour.
Having reached the semis in Cinci and the QF in San Jose, the 24-year-old arrived in New York with a fair bit of momentum – and has done well to translate it into a positive result.
In the quarters, she dispatched Karolina Pliskova 6-1, 7-6(4) – preceded by wins over the likes of Danielle Collins, Clara Burel, Kaia Kanepi, and Catherine Harrison.
These results have now placed Sabalenka at 29-17 as she is now set to compete in her second consecutive semifinal at the US Open.
Earlier in the year, Aryna was a runner-up in Stuttgart and Den Bosch as well.
All in all, Sabalenka is well-poised to put up a fight with Swiatek. Her motivation to win this one may also be compounded by the fact that she has fallen to her thrice already this year. Of course, her pedigree is respectable, with big titles in the singles and doubles department.
We know that Sabalenka is a highly competitive player with powerful strokes at her disposal. While she may lack the kind of equanimity that Iga has, that will be the key for her to win this one.
