Swiatek Remains Bookies’ Top Picks

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek is now at 5/4 (with bet365) to win the tournament after starting at outright odds of 15/8. Of course, this was to be expected as the Pole has had a brilliant campaign in New York, building further on her record-breaking season.

Five matches in, she has dropped just one set – a surprising one against Jule Niemeier – but apart from that, it’s been business as usual for the youngster. Her most recent opponent was the number eight seed Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinal, where she beat her 6-3, 7-6(4).

Her upcoming opponent is Aryna Sabalenka, who is now at 9/2 (withbet365). These odds are certainly justifiable as the Belarusian is on course to turn around her season – but has lost to Swiatek thrice in 2022.

That equation will change if the World No. 6 surpasses Iga – but that is a big ask. For what it’s worth, Aryna has had a good spell of late with a semifinal run in Cincinnati preceding her current streak.

In New York, where she will compete in the semis for the second successive time, she beat the likes of Kaia Kanepi, Danielle Collins, and Karolina Pliskova to prove her mettle.  Of course, compared to Swiatek, she is still trailing at 29-17 with just two singles finals this year.

Swiatek is the player to back here, and for those seeking underdog bets, Jabeur is the way to go.

Jabeur Placed at a Surprising 5/1

Caroline Garcia is set to compete in her first Grand Slam semifinal. The bookmakers have put her at 21/10 (with bet365) to go the distance – which may seem a bit too low.

Don’t get us wrong – Garcia is having one of the best seasons of her career. Her record is at an impressive 40-15 with three titles – Bad Homburg, Warsaw, and Cincinnati. She is also on a 13-match win streak, having beaten the likes of Maria Sakkari, Petra Kvitova, Sabalenka, Pegula, Bianca Andreescu, and Alison Riske-Amritraj in the last couple of weeks.

Caro is also well-experienced, and as a former top 10 player (current World No. 17), she can win the Slam in New York.

But when we consider her upcoming rival – Ons Jabeur (who is at 5/1) – one may wonder that the odds on the Frenchwoman are not truly justified.

Jabeur’s season has arguably been a lot better with 43-13, the current ranking of World No. 5, and five singles finals. Ons was the runner-up in Charleston, Rome, Wimbledon and the champion in Madrid and Berlin. Like Garcia, she has also beaten many top 10 players throughout the year.

More importantly, Jabeur has been consistent throughout the year, whereas Caroline found her groove only in mid-season. Considering these elements, one cannot help but take the generous value offering on Jabeur at 5/1 – which certainly should be lower in our opinion.
