Beatriz Haddad Maia v Naomi Osaka Head to Head

They have never faced off at the highest level but did meet once on the ITF circuit way back in 2015. It was Osaka who won a qualifying round encounter there on clay.

Haddad Maia Eases Past Naito

It’s been the kind of season that has made Haddad Maia a household name and while her performances over the last three tournaments haven’t quite lived up to those new-found expectations, she should still start off in her second round match with a lot of confidence.

This was after she sent Yuki Naito packing in her opener, defeating the Japanese opponent 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and 45 minutes.

What stood out in the encounter was Haddad Maia’s ability to stave off Naito at the most difficult of times. She saved five break-points in the encounter, while breaking the Japanese player three times.

Haddad Maia’s serving also stood out with the Brazilian getting 80% of her serves in and winning 80% of those points as well.

Against Osaka she would like for this to continue.

Osaka Finally Wins But…

…yep, Osaka was on a four-match-losing streak coming into this encounter and while she did manage to break the hoodoo, it came in rather sad circumstances.

Just a game into the first set, Osaka’s opening round opponent, Daria Saville was left screaming in pain as she looked to have done her knee. While Saville was able to walk around gingerly later, she was in no position to finish the match and that left Osaka with a win.

What that means is Osaka is still to win a completed match since her opening round victory over Qinwen Zheng in San Jose.

In fact since making it to the final of the Miami Open, Osaka’s win-loss record stands at a paltry 3-7. Can she now get past a player who is in the form and confidence of her life?

Haddad Maia v Osaka Prediction and Tip

Interestingly, it’s Osaka who starts off an 8/11 favourite to win this but we got to back Haddad Maia’s form and at those odds of 1/1, seems like a tempting bet.
