Stefanos Tsitsipas v Diego Schwartzman Head to Head

There have been five previous meetings between these two players and Tsitsipas has won three times to his opponent’s two.

Three of these matches have come in 2022 itself where Schwartzman clinched their ATP Cup encounter while Tsitsipas pouched the other two in Monte-Carlo and Cincinnati.

Tsitsipas Coming off US Open Shock

While Tsitsipas wasn’t quite a pre-tournament favourite at the US Open this season, he sure was expected to go deep into the competition. Or at least make it as far as the second week.

Instead, Tsitsipas was sent packing in the first round itself by Daniel Elahi Galan, leaving him with a lot of questions as the Greek number one continues to struggle with his Grand Slam showing.

The world number six did feature in a couple of Davis Cup matches before this and won both of them easily but would that be enough coming into this encounter.

Tsitsipas has played in this tournament twice before, winning both his singles matches in those tournaments. This time around, there could be a bit of a confidence-related issue after the US Open exit but against someone who hasn’t had a great season outside of clay, the Greek player should find his rhythm.

Schwartzman Not in the Best of Form

For a player ranked 17th in the world, Schwartzman would have liked to do a lot better in recent times than he has.

In fact, even on his most favourite surface, clay, Schwartzman is 6-5 on win-loss from his last five tournaments and that’s something he might find tough to digest.

More recently, he did make it to the third round at both, the Cincinnati Masters and US Open but every time he came up against a player with some pedigree, Schwartzman’s game fell apart.

Making it worse was his showing at the Davis Cup where Schwartzman lost to Sweden’s Mikael Ymer, 6-2, 6-2 in Argentina’s defeat at the hands of Sweden.

Can he take the fight to Tsitsipas?

Tsitsipas v Schwartzman Prediction and Tip

While Tsitsipas hasn’t had the best of results going his way in recent times, he will hold the advantage here against a player who has had his own struggles. Expecting the Greek player to win it in three.
