Holger Rune v Tim van Rijthoven Head to Head
No previous matches have been played between these two players at the highest level. They did face off on the Challenger tour in 2021, with Rune winning that match in straight sets.

After getting a first round bye at Metz, Rune managed to take a commanding 6-4, 4-1 lead over Benjamin Bonzi before his opponent retired from the encounter.
In the quarterfinal round though, Rune fell in a gruelling three-setter to Alexander Bublik, the eventual finalist in the competition.
Rune had earlier taken advantage of John Isner’s withdrawal from the US Open to reach the third round there, but his overall record in hard court competitions isn’t something he would be very pleased with.
He is 13-15 on this surface which includes both indoors and outdoors, but did make the quarterfinals at Metz last year – another indoor tournament.

van Rijthoven Enjoying a Year to Remember
It was at the start of the previous season that van Rijthoven was ranked 347th in the world, and a few months on he looks ready to break into the top 100.
In fact had Wimbledon carried ranking points he might have been knocking at the doors of the top 80 or even better. Because, following a title win at Rosmalen, van Rijthoven had managed to get himself to the fourth round at the season’s third major.
And even in that defeat to Novak Djokovic, van Rijthoven managed to pick up a set off the 21-time Grand Slam winner.
His time at the US Open Series hasn’t been as good – he didn’t feature in any of the pre-US Open tournaments and then fell in the second round at Flushing Meadows. Even before that, van Rijthoven was a first round casualty at Newport and struggled with fitness issues at the Indianapolis Challenger.
Van Rijthoven is back now and would like to get things moving again as he takes on a clay-court specialist in this one.
