Fognini and Bedene have a one-sided rivalry that began back in 2011. In their eight matches so far, Fognini has been victorious in all of them and presently leads by 8-0. They last met in the previous edition of the ATP Rio de Janeiro, where the Italian No. 1 defeated Bedene to reach the semifinal.

The 29-year-old Slovenian is heading into this fixture after winning his match ATP match of the season. He defeated the German Maximilian Marterer in straight sets with 6-3, 6-4.

Prior to that, he played in Melbourne where he lost to Alexander Zverev. He had a similar result in Brisbane as well, where he lost to Milos Raonic.

Bedene is not known to be a player who can cause massive upsets although, he has the potential to do so. Last year, he reached the final in Buenos Aires where he lost to Dominic Thiem. He was a semifinalist in Budapest as well and in the Italian Masters, he defeated Kevin Anderson to reach the third round.

Foginini will start this match as the overwhelming favourite to win. He has the psychological edge owing to his 8-0 lead over the Slovenian. This should be an easy, straight-set victory for the top seed.
