McDonald Slowly Improving

McDonald has had some lacklustre tennis months but he is slowly improving his forms thanks to playing some easier opponents. In the long run, it’s hard to predict what sort of effect it will have but winning matches as opposed to losing matches should do him well.

He’s a very solid player but one that struggles to keep up with the evolution of tennis. There isn’t much power in his game that’s becoming a problem as more players emerge who take the ball very early and attack. His game is very vulnerable to that type of play and his serve doesn’t bail him out that often.

He’s a player who has all the shots in his arsenal it’s just that there is not enough power. He’s battled consistency issues as well but he hopes to finish the season with a positive win-loss record. It’s only 22-26 at the moment and that comes after he won 3 of the last four he played.

Kwon Shines against de Minaur

Sonwoo Kwon hasn’t had that great of a season as he underperformed heavily across the board. He saw his ranking drop outside of the top 100 and that is something he will want to change in order to bread for the Australian Open. He disappointed in the singles last week in Seoul but did well in doubles.

Some of that seemed to have carried over to Japan as he stunned a very erratic Alex de Minaur in the first round. It was his biggest win of the season and it will perhaps push him even further. McDonald is a very beatable player for Kwon if he plays as well as he did against de Minaur.

His score this year is 21-28 and that’s not good. Even less so compared to the 27-19 he posted last year. Their lone clash on the Challenger Tour was won by Kwon so herpes he can tap into some of the things he did in that match. Odds do favour him slightly.

McDonald v Kwon Prediction and Tip

Kwon won their only challenger matchup 2018 but they never played on the ATP Tour. I do think the South Korean will have a decent chance so I’ll back him to do it.

Tip: Kwon to win: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
