The battle between the players with surnames was won by Bautista Agut as he was able to control the match against the Canadian very well never allowing him to find a very good rhythm. Even when Auger had the upper hand, Bautista found a way.
It was a very solid for him and it continued a winning trend he started in the Davis Cup so he has now won four matches in a row. All of those matches have been indoors and he’s a fairly solid indoor player. He has been for most of his career.
The season overall is very good for the Spaniard who has a 35-14 record with his hard court record far better than hi clay record.
Obviously, he’s very favoured to win here and I do expect him to win the match because he should be flying high after his win over Felix.

Good Win For Kotov
Pavel Kotov was a bit lucky to face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the opening round as the draw is stacked. The luck comes from the fact that the Spaniard produced another lacklustre effort allowing the Russian to score a pretty big win.
He got it done in two sets but his reward is facing Roberto Bautista Agut and that will be a far harder match for him. Kotov is well suited for indoors and he played a lot of indoor tennis growing up Russia. His score this year is 34-16 so a very good year and 9-4 on indoor.
I don’t think there is much he can do to Bautista. He simply lacks the weapons and consistency but if he brings some new tactic and surprises the Spaniard a bit, he could at least make it interesting.
I don’t see it personally.

This should be a fairly comfortable win for Bautista. There is a chance he plays a bad match but even then I think he wins.
